CBD oil for anxiety

Cannabidiol is a product extracted from the cannabis plant. It is a type of cannabinoid chemical found in the marijuana plant. Despite coming from marijuana, CBD does not have the high effect or the intoxication caused by other cannabinoids like THC. Until recently, THC was the best-known compound in the cannabis plant. It has a psychological effect and creates a mind-altering highness once someone smokes or takes it in food. The CBD oil is an extract from the hemp plant called cannabis indica and cannabis Sativa.

Most users of CBD may have come across cannabis plants because they have grown from marijuana. But CBD is different from marijuana: CBD oil contains CBD mixed with a carrier oil, like hemp seed oil or coconut oil. These are known as tinctures. You can obtain tinctures in various concentrations. The oil can also be put in capsules, sprays, and gummies. Wagoner et al. (2021) said that it treats pain anxiety, helps to stimulate appetite, and can help stimulate some types of seizures.

What is CBD?

CBD is one of the most researched products from the cannabis plant, followed by tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Besides CBD and THC, the cannabis plant contains over 540 chemical compounds. The two major cannabinoids bind to special cannabinoid receptors in the body. THC produces the ‘high’ feeling that people associate with weed. But CBD does not produce these effects. Instead, it provides a variety of potential health benefits. Brown & Winterstein (2017) suggested that CBD contains powerful pharmacological effects. Many researchers suggest that CBD contains beneficial anti-inflammatory properties. CBD works by blocking certain enzymes that trigger inflammation in the body.

CBD for Anxiety

Skelley et al. (2020) published a journal (Neurotherapeutics) which suggested that CBD can help treat anxiety disorders. The authors reported that the CBD had previously shown powerful anxiety and relieving effects in animal research, and the results were amazing. In many studies, low doses of CBD improved some anxiety symptoms while high doses had almost no effects.

CBD acts in the brain in a way that could explain why this happens. CBD can act the same way as the surrounding molecules that connect to the receptor that turn up their signaling in low doses. But in many dose activities, this receptor site may produce the opposite effects. CBD can also benefit people with other forms of anxiety, such as social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic disorder, and insomnia.

Studies suggest that CBD may help people with post-traumatic stress like having nightmares and replaying negative memories. The studies have looked at CBD as a standalone treatment and a supplement to traditional treatments such as medication and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

CBD for Neurological Disorders

CBD has been studied in other neurological disorders. Iffland et al. (2017) said that CBD and psychiatric disorders concluded that there is insufficient evidence to taut CBD as an effective treatment for depression.

The authors found evidence showing that CBD can help with anxiety disorders. However, the studies were uncontrolled. It means that participants were not compared to s separate group that may have received different treatment or no treatment. Based on their review, more test on human is required to understand better how CBD works, the ideal dosages, and if there are ideal potential side effects or hazards. Zuardi et al. (2012) found that CBD may have antipsychotic effects in people with schizophrenia. CBD doesn’t cause significant debilitating side effects concerned with some antipsychotic drugs.

CBD Oil Dosage

Once you are interested in trying CBD oil for your anxiety, consult the doctor. They help you figure out the right starting dosages for you. But, nonprofit organization for the reform of marijuana laws advises that few commercials are available that contain CBD to replicate the therapeutic effects seen in clinical trials. The data on humans’ remains limited; research has shown that it has low toxicity regarding the effects of taking pure CBD. The WHO reported that people usually adapt well to CBD. And that CBD does not cause the highness effect, and it does not have the same potential for abuse as cannabis.

CBD Oil Benefits

Several studies have shown that the benefits of CBD can have a wide range of positive effects. However, consider the human body’s endocannabinoid system to understand the benefits. It has a complex system of enzymes, receptors, and neurotransmitters that has an important role in developing the central nervous system. The central nervous system (CNS) helps control several functions, including motor control, memory, appetite, pain, inflammation, etc. By studying the CBD effects further, you can better understand how CBD affects different conditions and disorders in the body.

Risks and Side Effects

The information on the safety of CBD is not sufficient. The available information points out the possible risks that users have to consider before taking CBD. Some noticeable side effects include changes in alertness and drowsiness, digestive issues like diarrhea and decreased appetite, changes in moods, and weight changes, e.g., irritability and agitation.

Some side effects may appear without people being aware of the cases, such as liver failure and injuries resulting from mixing alcohol and other depressants. The FDA doesn’t regulate CBD for treating anxiety or other mental conditions. People should use their judgment while purchasing CBD products. Always buy products from reputable distributors and manufacturers.

How to Use CBD Oil

Researchers and Healthcare professionals have not established dosing recommendations for CBD therapy. Research conducted in 2019 found that 300-600 mg of CBD significantly reduced the anxiety symptoms of fifty-seven adult males. A person’s dosage to relieve anxiety depends on the product and how the experts administer it. The administration methods include capsules, edibles, oil, sublingual spray, and vaporized oil or cannabis flowers.

Conclusion

An ever-growing body of research showed that CBD can help relieve anxiety, a very common mental disorder. However, the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t control CBD for treating anxiety. It means that the dosage and quality can vary between the products and the manufacturers. People under medication or supplements should consult a doctor before using CBD products.
