What is CBD oil used for?

CBD is a cannabinoid, one of the many compounds cannabis plants boasts. Although more studies are needed to justify that it can help with inflammation, anxiety, stress, and pain, people use it for these roles anyways. This article focuses on what CBD oil is used for.

Recent reports focus on CBD oil and what it can do or has already done to people. Watching the news on TV or searching things online, you will likely notice that most adverts depict CBD as a harmless product deemed safe for inflammation, pain, anxiety, general wellness, skin, and many other things, although CBD research is limited and there is not enough scientific evidence to prove these claims true. The craze and hype around CBD oil increase every other day, and we expect more and more people to make CBD their regime. Here is what you need to know about what to use CBD for.

Understanding CBD Oil

With more people joining the CBD bandwagon, you want to fully understand it before knowing how to use it. After all, isn’t the internet filled with information, some of which might be misleading? CBD oil is the diluted form of CBD, a non-psychoactive compound in cannabis plants. Non-psychoactive means that it is not linked to the ‘high’ effect of THC, another abundant compound in cannabis plants that forms the basis of many research topics.

CBD is extracted from cannabis plants using an appropriate technique, say CO2 or ethanol extraction, and it is based on an appropriate carrier oil like olive or hemp seed oil to form CBD oil. You can enjoy CBD benefits by taking CBD oils, tinctures, edibles, and vapes and by topically applying CBD creams, serums, lotions, roll-ons, balms, and patches on the skin. Whichever CBD delivery method you choose, you can explore the following three CBD formulations;

  1. Isolate-based CBD; features pure CBD without any other cannabis compound. Most novice CBD users opt for it and explore high CBD dosages.
  2. Full-spectrum CBD; unlike CBD isolates, full-spectrum CBD features many compounds other than CBD. It has multiple cannabinoids, including THC, CBC, CBN, and CBT, terpenes, and flavonoids, which you can tap on to enjoy the full entourage effect of CBD oil.
  3. Broad-spectrum CBD; resembles full-spectrum CBD in composition, but it does not have the psychoactive THC. You can explore it to enjoy the multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, but without THC.

There is no better CBD formulation than the other. Instead, the available types allow people to enjoy a variety. Whichever the formulation, the following are some reasons that drive people into taking CBD.

CBD for Managing Inflammation

Inflammation is the body’s natural means of responding to foreign factors. As such, it is a naturally harmless process, bringing us to one question; why would people take CBD for inflammation? When inflammation occurs spontaneously such that it cannot be controlled, it turns out to be harmful. It is not only linked to pain, but it increases one’s chances of suffering from chronic conditions like cancer, diabetes, and disease. It is no wonder that more research now focuses on taming inflammation, hopefully lowering people’s risk for inflammatory conditions. Can CBD oil be part of the breakthrough? Could it have anything to do with inflammation? Hammell et al. (2016) applied CBD topically to the legs of arthritic rats suffering from inflammation and whose conditions were compromised. The study revealed that CBD significantly helped reduce pain and inflammation in rats, suggesting that CBD oil might help humans with inflammation. Still, we need more studies to prove the efficacy of CBD oil for inflammation, and we hold back from recommending CBD for inflammation.

CBD Oil for Handling Pain

The other thing CBD is used for is pain management. Whether chronic or acute pain, CBD oil seems to be the answer to main people’s pain management tips. In fact, people take CBD capsules, tinctures, topicals, vapes, and edibles like gummies and mints to manage pain. Does this mean that CBD oil treats pain and that you need to overlook your prescriptions and opt for it? Not at all; there is insufficient CBD research, and we cannot prove the efficacy of CBD for. However, studies such as Vuckovic et al. (2018) see potential in CBD for pain management, claiming that it can reduce the pain from various chronic conditions, including cancer, neuropathic, and fibromyalgia pains. Hammell et al. (2016) previously quoted also noticed that CBD oil can help with pain, but we need more studies to uphold the role of CBD in pain treatment.

CBD Oil for Managing Anxiety

Since Covid-19 set its roots in the world, it has left many people sinking into depression. Of course, anxiety is not always as bad as people put it since it can trigger the fight or flight option when needed. However, too much anxiety might lead to depression, which has more far-reaching effects, including lowering one’s productivity. People take antidepressants and antipsychotics to manage anxiety and depression, but not everyone finds a remedy in them, moving masses to seek alternative therapies. Does this mean that CBD oil could help with anxiety and depression now that many people flock to it? Garcia-Gutierrez et al. (2020) established that CBD oil could help with anxiety, and many other studies support this. Still, more studies are needed to prove this beyond any doubt before recommending the cannabinoid for anxiety.

CBD Oil for General Wellness

Although most CBD users opt for it to manage pain, anxiety, inflammation, or some medical challenge, others simply take it for general wellness. If anything, can’t CBD oil help improve a person’s well-being if it can help with all these other functions? It is no wonder that some people have made CBD oil part of their regime, although they are not sick.

Conclusion

CBD oil is the diluted form of CBD, the non-psychoactive compound in cannabis plants. Unlike THC, is does not cause the ‘high’ effect, all the more why many people have embraced it in the various delivery methods. People take it for inflammation, pain, anxiety, and general wellness, although studies are yet to prove that it can indeed help with any of these.
